Tivoli is very popular to visitors for two topnotch attractions: Hadrian’s Villa and the gardens of Villa d’Este. However, there are other factors to be considered. Ancient Tivoli, which was formed as the town of Tibur, predates the Roman era. The small town of Tivoli was founded in 1215 BC and is believed to be the future capital of Italy; the town itself contains ruins of Roman aqueducts, a medieval castle, and several fascinating churches, as well as other traces of Tivoli’s lengthy past.Tivoli is now known for its rich cultural legacy, magnificent scenery, and numerous garden houses.

Tivoli Private Tour is one of the most popular day trips from Rome. The lovely trip will take you through the archeology, history, sites of worship, and natural sceneries inside Tivoli that you wouldn’t expect – well cared by its residents and widely valued by tourists and lovers of beauty.

Our tour guides are generous in hospitality; they will assure travelers making their best day in their life. Here’s a day’s worth of things to see, do, and eat.

Villa Hadriana

The summer capital of Hadrian, one of the most popular Roman emperors. As you walk through this amazingly preserved villa, you will have the opportunity to admire some of the wonderful treasures such as Pesir (a faithful reconstruction of the ancient Athens porch), the Navy Theater, a wonderful hot spring, and Campus (a faithful reproduction of Egypt Shrine) and the villa museum of Hadrian. It is full of valuable items found during the excavation (including a copy of Phidias's Amazon). The Hadrian’s villa is one of Italy's UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is still a monumental residential complex that still demonstrates the generosity and immense power of ancient Rome.

Villa D'Este

It was built by the grandson of Pope Alexander VI. In the 16th century, it was one of the most beautiful palaces and gardens in Italy, and perhaps throughout Europe. It started and was commissioned when Cardinal Ippolito d'Este of Ferrara was elected Governor of Tivoli. The entire complex consists of a geometric system of fountains, basements, modified paths, ramps, and stairs around arched sidewalks. It is considered the pinnacle of the European garden concept. This villa was home to the son of Lucrezia Borgia, famous for its incredibly beautiful gardens, stunning fountains, breathtaking waterfalls and 100-year-old trees.

Tivoli Town

The Romans quickly recognized the strategic importance of Tivoli because it crossed the Lazio region and was close to the Aniene River, one of the main tributaries of the Tiber. This is how Tivoli was founded in the 4th century BC,recognized as a municipality of Rome underLex Julia Municipalis. From that moment on, Tivoli became home to many of the wealthiest Roman villas, including Horace, Cassius, PublioQuintilio Varo andManlioVopisco.
